Madison Families Team Up For Home Improvements

For two years now four Madison NJ families have been assisting each other with home improvements.  They refer to themselves as "The House Project".  With their favorite tools in hand, they arrive at the designated home at 8:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month between June and October.  They start the day with coffee and bagels as they discuss their assigned projects.

They meet in February with their calendars to plan to upcoming months of projects.  They are committed to putting in 5 1/2 hours of work without question or griping whether it be painting, putting up fences, hanging shelves, etc.  Being skilled is not a requirement but will be recognized and duly noted among peers. 

On the designated day, a couple of the moms stay with all the kids (at a different home, of course) to entertain and keep them occupied while the worker bees complete their tasks.  Most are in agreement that the moms have the more difficult task!  The home that is having the work done is considered the "hosting home" and is responsible for providing food and drink for the day.

All projects end at 2:00 and these families feel they've got a pretty good thing going.  Without this combined effort, these projects would probably never get done.  Its wonderfully social, they save money and have a sense of accomplishment, often get good workmanship while strengthening the neighborly bond in Madison NJ.
