Barry Bonds breaks Home run Record
Posted Aug 7, 2007 @ 11:45 pm, Viewed by 272 Visitors, Read 278 Times.I'm watching Bill O'Reilly on Fox and the headline comes flashing across the bottom of the screen - Barry Bonds breaks Home run record with #756!
I don't even flick the channel over to ESPN or even bother to jump on line to check out the details. In fact, I don't even know where he hit it and I'm not even interested for something that was such a monumental achievement.
Automatically the assumption readers will have with my above statement is that I am not a baseball fan or I don't like Barry Bonds.
Quite the opposite -- I grew up loving baseball and lived and breathed it. I have boxes and boxes of baseball cards from when I was growing up and probably have several of Barry's rookie cards but I'm not even going to look. For some reason, I lost complete interest in baseball about 10 years ago -- even though I still love to catch a game at Wrigley Field.
It's no secret the media does not like Barry Bonds (even before the steroids accusations) and I really can't even remember why except for the fact that Barry Bonds does not like the media. Other then that, he's always been a great baseball player but I doubt he'll go down in history as even in the top 10 favorite players of all time --- even though he just broke a monumental record and is still going.
(A flash just came across the TV with details of the home run (he hit it at Giants Stadium) and estimates are that the actual ball that he hit could fetch up to $2,000,000 for the lucky retriever even though there is already controversy on that also.)
Personally, I think David Beckham coming to play Soccer in the United States is bigger news.

Well Said Morgan, When I went to college at UNLV I worked in a major casino and got to meet some great people the media plays out as jerks and some jerks the media plays out as great people. (Gretzky fits in the category of a great athlete and a great person. Super nice guy!)
News flash Update courtesy of Fox News - the attendee who caught the ball was a 22 year old from Brooklyn New York and bought the ticket to the game the day of the game. He was on his way to Australia and had a layover in San Francisco. Something tells me he was not even a Giants Fan!
Awww man that sucks - good for him though!

You know what sucks - the media wrecked Barry for me (Well caused me to be less interested anyways) - but the fact of the matter is, I cannot think of any reason other than to think of him in as high a regard as our own Wayne Gretzky - the guy is freakin awesome as an athlete and to achieve what he has no matter who says what is at least worth me saying it - Way to go Barry!
