Canadian Railway is not Welcomed in the Northwest Chicago Suburbs
Posted Jan 5, 2008 @ 9:10 am, Viewed by 433 Visitors, Read 445 Times.Here is a quick summary:
For years the EJ&E Railway has been a responsible company that has kept freight train traffic cutting through the Northwest Suburbs and other communities to a minimum due to the fact that every freight train that comes through has an impact on the communities in one form or another.
The Canadian National Railway Company is seeking to capitalize on the opportunity to take a railway with minimal traffic and to invest $100,000,000 into it to turn it into a major railway with intentions of increasing the traffic from maybe 3 to 5 freight trains a day to 20 freight trains a day.
Of course, the CN Railway Co. would like to make the case that their intentions are to improve the congestion of major freight train hubs in Chicago (you know, the lines that were built for heavy congestion) and that they are doing Chicago a favor.
Yeah right.... Railroad Corporations don't invest $100,000,000 to relieve congestion, they invest $100,000,000 to increase traffic and build a higher revenue base. They plan on doing this by ignoring the quality of life (and safety) for the residents in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago including a major hub for several communities.
In fact, they pushed for an Environmental Impact Statement that was requested by the Community of Barrington to the Surface Transportation Board to be denied. That action alone tells you that this is an irresponsible company that could care less about the impact their actions have on people.
According to the Barrington communities Against the Canadian Railway Company website, there are some very disturbing facts about the Canadian Railway Company and their record for safety that any resident of Chicago should read.
And finally, the impact that the proposed changes would have on the community is highlighted with this impact on the Northwest Chicago suburbs presentation.
The Barrington area is very well known as a highly desirable place to live in the Northwest Suburban Chicago area due to the fact that the quality of life for it's residents always comes first. Community involvement is a model for many communities to follow and the Canadian Railway Company is now finding that out. Something EJ&E always knew.
The Transportation Safety Board's section of Environmental Analysis will be coming to Barrington on January 9th to conduct meetings to hear from area residents. The time and place is:
Makray Memorial Golf Club (Click Link for Map)
1010 S. Northwest Highway
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 9, 2008
From 1:00 until 4:00 pm AND
From 6:00 until 8:00 pm
While Barrington is leading the way in the fight against the proposed changes in freight train traffic in the Northwest Suburbs, this does not just effect Barrington. If the proposed changes to increase freight train traffic are approved, it will effect the entire Northwest Suburban region of Chicago in one way or another with zero benefit to area residents. You can learn more about what you can do by visiting this Communities Against the Canadian Railway Company page.
