Finding a Virtual Assistant in a customer service black hole
Posted May 29, 2008 @ 5:44 pm, Viewed by 224 Visitors, Read 238 Times. We've experienced some growing pains of late here at the Tousley Group. The combination of online marketing, steady real estate market and a great REW website have forced us to start looking for another Admin person. I've always wanted to try a VA (Virtual Assistant) and now looks like the perfect time to bring one onto the team.
We began looking yesterday, researching websites, comparing available services and skills Finally we settled on 3 that looked very promising and decided to contact them. Unfortunately, no one picked up the phone so we sent them each an email.
It's been 24 hours, an eternity on the web, and we've heard nothing from any of them.
No doubt these 3 VA's are top notch in their field and are probably swamped with work right now. They had the tools and experience to accomplish what we were looking for, but the customer service was non existent. The business that was once theirs to win is now going to a competitor with better follow up skills. How Ironic, the very reason we are looking for a VA is to ensure this never happens to our clients!
In our market of Tacoma, selling real estate takes more than a great website it takes a real honest commitment to old fashioned customer service. Even with all the advances in real estate technology it's really a people business isn't it?

Excellent questions Marin. I agree with you that a local person would work out just fine for many tasks. The flexibility available with a VA is very appealing, not to mention they are already very good at handling real estate specific programs such as Top Producer.
Crystal, if you're out there send me an email direct, your yahoo address is bouncing back

I'm surprised to hear that none of these top folks have gotten back to you. I guess the good news is that it makes the interview process go more quickly since you obviously don't want to engage anyone that is non-responsive. Out of curiousity: - what are the "top 5" tasks that you were going ot have this VA tackle for you? - did you consider hiring someone with RE experience locally to fill this position? it appears that a lot of folks from the mortgage, title, re industy are being cut loose with the general downturn in business and are looking for opportunities. Just curious since VAs seem like they can work out when they are responsive and knowledgable about your local market however it seems like local resources could also fit the bill given the overall market conditions.
