"Builder" vs. "Carpenter"

If you aren't in the home building business - or even if you are, and you don't lay around thinking about things the way I do - you may use the two terms interchangeably. When you want to build a new home, you call a "contractor." But what type of person will show up? I consider myself an excellent home builder, but to be honest, I'm not the worlds best carpenter. I also know excellent carpenters who were lousy builders. Carpentry is a craft, usually honed over many years. Most homes are buil... Read Full Post

After the real estate market hit a steady decline in mid 2006, home builders turned to incentives as a way to attract home buyers to their communities and to help differentiate themselves from the competition. When you start looking for a new home be sure to compare builder incentives as much as the communities themselves. To help you choose, I have created a list of the top 7 new home buying incentives you should look out for: Military or Civil Service Incentive - As a thank you to the indiv... Read Full Post

The best way to put yourself in the shoes of one of your sellers is to actually become one. If I was to take my own good advice, I would NOT sell this property right now - but hold on to it and rent it until the market improves. But we really don't want to rent it, it's a BRAND NEW HOME. New homes seem to have much more value than used homes. Well, at least that's what we thought... We bought the lot long enough ago with plans of building and making a profit and ideally it should have worked ... Read Full Post

Despite the dismal forecast of the national housing market, San Antonio’s strong local economy is keeping the local housing market steady. According to a recent Metro study and the Greater San Antonio Builders Association, San Antonio experienced a healthy price appreciation of approximately 7% in 2007. Read Full Post

What happened to the good ol' days back in 2004/2005 when real estate was more people friendly? Sure the market crash landed with ferocity similar to the late 1980s (so I've heard) and banks were stirred into a frenzy by the numerous bad loans made to subprime borrowers whose dreams were bigger than their pocket books could afford but I'm seeing the bloodshed coming from familiar, though unexpected, sources. Most recently I had a relocating client whose been through the ringer when it comes t... Read Full Post
