When people think about buying lakefront property, it's no surprise that Florida is at the top of their prospective locations.  After all, what other state has both a county called Lake County and a city named Lakeland?  Within Lake County itself are nearly 656,000 acres of lakes, while Lakeland boasts 38 named lakes covering 28,000 acres.  Add to that the fact that most major cities in the state have numerous lakes, and you'll understand that there is the potential for millions of acres of lakefront property.

So is a lakefront home for you?  It could be.  Lakefront property is good not only for a place to live, but makes for an excellent investment opportunity. Baby boomers are retiring to Florida in record numbers, with more wealth than ever.  And available lakefront property is harder to find than other homes.  What this means, according to experts, is that Central Florida lakefront property has appreciated at over 30% a year, and in some cases is doubling and tripling in just a matter of a decade or two.  As long as people continue to be drawn to the beauty of the water, lakefront property will doubtless continue to increase its value.

So how do you find good lakefront property?  Contacting a reputable Realtor is obviously the first step. He can help you sort through the complicated process. Remember that you're not going to find the best property in the classifieds. Lakefront property owners understand the value of their holdings...and often find other means to advertise them.  These are often only available to real estate agents.  Ask your agent if he or she knows of any such properties that are unlisted.
