Gas Prices declined in April

I came across a great article this morning.  It was by Robert Murphy an economist with the Instiitute for Energy Research.  After reading his article I had to find this quote he used from CNBC.  Here is the quote from CNBC, "Energy fell 0.2 pct, the largest drop since December, while food was unchanged in the month. Within the energy sector, gasoline fell 4.6 pct, the largest drop since December."  I don't know about anyone else but I have not seen the price of gas in the Outer Banks drop.  Everytime I go to the pumps I seem to pay more.

The article goes on to state how the government used a seasonal adjustment to determine the drop in the price of gas.  I can not speak for anyone else but when I am paying at the pump I never notice a seasonal adjustment in the amount that flows from my wallet.  As far as I can tell gas has been continuously rising.

No matter how they want to report gas prices, all of us consumers realize the real pinch rising gas costs put in our wallets.  It would be nice if the economic indicators were clearer for the public to understand.  I have to believe true transparency on the gravity of the economic situation should be passed onto the public.  If consumers realized the possibility of a long term recession, they would be forced to adjust their life style.  Politicians must believe an ignorant public is better than an informed.  I mean,  Who wants to hear that gas and food prices are rising faster than wages?
