Is Now The Right Time to Buy?Car_keys.gif - (6K)

The real truth is yes. Why? There are a few reasons. First lets address mortgage rates. They are at all time lows and starting to creep upward. So if you were waiting for a home's price to come down, your monthly payment could still end up being more in the end. What have you really accomplished? A higher payment despite only a possible lower price.

Are we at the bottom and could it go lower?  I don't know about you, but I don't have a crystal ball and niether do the Feds.  Remember that most of the news is focused on the National market. Real Estate is largely a local market supported by local economics.  The towns in Fairfield County are only a relatively short drive from New York City whose real estate market is thriving. We have low unemployment and low corporate vacancy which goes to further support our market. So are we at the bottom? We just might be. And if we are not, consider that if you are planing on remaining in your home for 3 years or more, whatever dip might occur, you will likely have regained.

Lastly, if you need more space and are looking to move up, the time is now. For the first time in over 10 years the disparity is much narrower and you can realize a larger gain in space for the buck.

Need advice?  Give me a call and I'd be happy to review your needs with you. You are never under any obligation as I believe in only happy clients.  To start your search for a home, go to www.HomesofFairfieldCounty.com

Happy Spring!

Reviewing the Comparables
By Katrina McKay
Your real estate agent has access to what are known as 'comparables.’ These are listings of houses similar to yours in your neighborhood that have been sold recently, including descriptions, photos, the listing price and the price the seller accepted. Whether you're buying a house or selling the one you own, you absolutely need to be going over the comparables.

What is, "going over the comparables"?... Read More

5 Common Myths About Hard Water
Courtesy of NewsUSA
If you consider hard water in your home to be a demon, then you may have fallen victim to a few hard water myths. Here are five common myths that have been "floating" around for years:

1. Hard water clogs pipes.

Fact: Calcium and magnesium do not build up and clog copper pipes. Between 1950 and the late 1970s, most homes were built using steel (galvanized) pipes. Minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, stick to steel. Most new and... Read More

DIY Details Add Pizzazz to Your Home
By ARA

Crown moulding, probably the most popular architectural addition to rooms today, does for a room what accessories do for an outfit - it adds style, personality and detail. From the kitchen to the dining room to the bathroom, any room can be dressed up with the simplest addition of customized moulding.

One way to integrate moulding into a room is to drop the moulding from the ceiling and add lighting behind it. Or another idea is to utilize extra wall space by creating two rows of moulding and varying your color palette above and below each row for a crisp look.

And who says installing moulding can't be a simple DIY project for any homeowner? To make crown moulding installation easier and less time-intensive, Focal Point Architectural Products developed the new Quick Clips moulding installation system that allows DIYers to install designer-quality moulding with only amateur-grade tools, less caulking and no priming. For more information visit focalpointproducts.com.

Design for Function & Comfort
By Teresa Opdycke
Know Your Space - Before designing or decorating a room, you must know the space. The size of the space determines the scale of furniture, accessories, and even the shade of paint you choose. Imagine a small living room with a grand piano sitting in the center; no room would be left for seating, tables, or much of anything.

Get Organized - Organization sits at the top of the list. No matter how perfect your wall colors or how dramatic your furniture placement, if a home looks cluttered and unorganized all else is lost. Take the time to organize every room in the house so that putting everything in place is easy because everything has a place to go.

Think Comfort - Home and comfort are synonymous. You go home to refresh yourself before beginning another day of work and play. Think about comfort as a primary goal when... Read More

Tips to Repair a Plaster Wall
By B. Conrad
Many homeowners are reluctant to tackle damage to their interior walls –things like cracks and small holes. In many cases, these problems can be easily repaired with simple tools and some inexpensive material. Taking the do-it-yourself approach is a great way to save money, while at the same time learning some valuable skills that may be useful down the road.

Cracks, which often appear in plaster walls, are a common problem that many homeowners face. If a crack continually reappears after several repairs, it may be a sign of structural damage or a shifting foundation. Although a professional should address large or reappearing cracks, a homeowner can easily repair simple cracks or small holes.

Fill in cracks or small holes by using a putty knife to apply a spackling compound. Spackling compound is available in any home improvement or hardware store. After the... Read More
