READY FOR PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

We are anxiously awaiting and actively watching efforts in the Florida State Legislature to provide property tax relief for people in Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach and throughout the state.

With the legislature convening yesterday (March 6) there has been much rhetoric in Tallahassee about the need to change property tax calculations so that bills are more equitable.  Today two neighbors in identical homes are likely paying very different tax bills.

This disparity has negatively impact real estate in Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, and throughout the state.  People who have moved among communities, people who want to downsize or buy bigger homes, are often stymied by the tax burden.  Yes, a smaller home can bring a larger tax bill!

Most people are willing to pay their fair share of the property tax burden.  Many communities, including Palm Beach Gardens, struggle with concept of fairness because of the large number of seasonal residents.  Counties and cities, like Palm Beach County, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, are very dependent on revenue from property taxes to balance their budgets.

First stop in the process of reducing property taxes might be for county and municipal governments to reign in their spending so that less revenue is needed.

Because the property tax issue is so important to the health of our real estate market, I will keep you posted on discussions and progress about this issue.
