Property tax relief for residents of Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach and throughout Florida has disappeared from the front pages of our newspapers.  That could mean that lawmakers are seriously working out of the spotlight on proposals to lower our property tax bills.

When we last visited this issue, Republicans had advanced a proposal that would roll property tax bills back to 2001 levels, then provide increases based on economic factors such as the Consumer Price Index.

Democrats are now suggesting a broader approach that includes capping local government spending, relief for people renting and possibly business property tax relief. Another Democratic proposal would substitute an increase in sales taxes for the school tax component of property taxes.
