This blog post is neither for nor against the Brent's Cover Development in the Bryceville, Florida area. I am seeking only to give opinion of what I see developing and how this concerns the citizens of Bryceville.
According to the Ascot Development website, Brent’s Cove includes approximately 3,000 acres of land located in both Duval and Nassau Counties.
If you would like to read more about the development, you may wish to visit http://www.ascotdevelopment.com/projects/North_Florida/Duval-Nassau_Counties/Brents_Cove the website of the developer. They give a detailed explanation as well as site plans.
I was born and raised in Bryceville and currently live in the Bryceville area. I have heard many concerns from Bryceville locals about how a development of this type may affect our community. Though I understand the concerns, I feel that we should think about what could be next if we area able to block this development. If Ascot is not successful, someone will be. I believe that we should think about what type of development may get passed in the future. We never know who will be in position to vote the next developer in. If it is 2, 5 or even 10 years down the road; we will see this issue again.
Listed below are a couple of the concerns that I have heard from locals.
Infrastructure: Do we have any confidence in our elected and appointed local government? True, we must raise concern to ensure that they think through all aspects of approval before making a leap. Infrastructure just happens to be a top priority when making decisions for development.
Electricity: I am no expert and yes my electricity has gone out many times. Tree limbs that brush the lines have some impact on our power failures. If anything, the additional customers in the area should improve on service.
Again, like I said before, I am neither for nor against the development. I love the country and that is why I moved back here. I believe that all of the questions and concerns the people of Bryceville have could be put a little more simply. The developers are going to cover the issues that are being raised. I understand that we are looking for ways to keep them out. It doesn't really matter what their answers are on these issues. Bryceville is a small country town and the people here want it to remain this way. The development is not welcome by most and no matter what type of infrastructure improvements are made, the development will not be welcomed with open arms. My concern is, that one day this area will be populated. I only hope that we keep our eyes open for the right developer. If we are not careful, we could push out developer after developer until we get one that does or says the right things to the right people and we may end up with a paper company stinking up our air and polluting our water.
This is just something to think about.
