I was just there in February. I did not feel safe there and I'm 6'2" and 200 lbs.
It was dirty, smelly and dangerous. It looked like 90% of the population was unemployed.
Did you see all of the half built skyscrapers? I was told they were being built in the mid 90's and the investment money dried up. 10 to 15 years later they are still all sitting there unfinished.

oh! I just saw the previous post.
I should try to check myself first...hehe
bye!
Never buy a home in a foreign country before seeing the neighborhood. You literally need to go and talk to 10 different real estate agents (since there is no common MLS out there) and see different places. Prepare to spend min. 10 days and make sure all your bank statement paperwork is ready. Morocco like every other place has its bad neighborhoods but to generalize every single place as being bad is wrong. There are some excellent luxury beach properties in Tangiers and Casablanca and a few small neighboring towns that the foreigners have made their own "villages" at. But again never buy the place before you see it.
