Default which would be more browser friendly? Flash or Java applet?

Take a look, Don't laugh I know it's ugly. It's far from finished.

I was thinking of having a section of my site (not the home page) with auto scrolling picture panoramas of the local area similar to my example below.

Which would run better on most peoples computers, this project done with Flash or the same thing as I have it now with a java applet?

It's not an "official" web page or a website yet, just a bad picture that moves.

I'm guessing Flash. Don't get me wrong, I love Java, but the simple fact is that there is only one Flash player. There are multiple JVMs, including Microsoft's own, which is non-standard. Flash is installed or easily installable on any computer, so if you're going to use one, I'd probably recommend Flash.

I would suggest Flash. I think more people will have it. I have Flash installed, but not Java.

About pictures of the local area...are most buyers from outside your area? Anecdotally, in my town most buyers already live in the town and know about the area.

Personally I would concentrate on selling houses, if prospects want to know about the area, there are plenty of other resources out there.

Most people are not from the area. They have been told by a friend or a newspaper that Delaware has some of the lowest taxes in the US and they decide to retire here.

They call me and ask me what it looks like. It's much easier for me to say look at this web link than to tell them it is located on a big pretty bay with birds and swamp grass :-)

My ugly site that brings me tons of business and daily complements is full of info and pictures that are not directly related to selling homes.

It's my humble opinion that people actually like to look at pictures and read about the area that they are planing to retire to.

If all they want is MLS access and a list of homes for sale there are 1500 other Delaware websites they can go to.

I bet you could probably do that with javascript, eliminating the need for some kind of player. Although some people have javascript disabled, I think it would be more browser friendly.

    Naturally. (Did anyone say otherwise?)

I beg your pardon. Being a real estate forum, I had assumed that you sold houses through your site, and that was what your visitors were looking for from you.

Good luck with the tourism venture.

It was not my intension to be rude; I apologize if you took it that way.

I don’t just sell homes I sell a lifestyle, the beach, boating, fishing, golf, pretty sunsets and ultra low Delaware taxes.

My tourism venture has done pretty well so far and I look forward to an even more rewarding season next year.

    No worries.

I only look at sites quickly, I would be here all day otherwise!

Sounds like you are doing everything just right!
