I"ve got a cable hook-up and the java took a long time to load for me (didn't even know it was there until it popped up. Once it was up it moved almost too fast.

The first flash version was very slow moving but that wasn't a bad thing.

The 2nd flash version moves good but the photos started & then whoosh, the words scrolled on & almost hurt my eyes (it was unexpected). This one moves at the best pace for me.

I think area photos are great and I was taught this by a very respected REALTOR/webmaster who has an awesome & extremely successful site. He told me to teach people about my area so that people not familiar with it get a feel for things. He told me to get out there and get some local pictures - not just houses.

Now, I don't consider the south suburbs of Chicago as a place people move to from other states/countries - not like your area - but he said to try to get people relocating to Chicago and introduce them to my area as not everyone wants to live directly in the big city. I never liked taking photos before listening to him and became a photog (well, for me, anyway).
Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

The 2nd flash is the best. Loaded fast & had the right speed in my opinion. The Java one never did load....

I'm a little sea sick from all the movement. The flash without the text looks better (maybe if the text had a solid background color). Excuse me while I regain composure.

Alternatively, just provide a static gallery.
