I dont see how any search engine can apply a blanket rule like that. If I am selling a product or for that matter 250 products, my site map which links to every page on my site would then be classified as a link farm? I dont think that would classify. While I would tend to agree that its safest to just follow Google's suggestions, they are not interested in getting you the best results. SEO is all about finding what Google (or other SE's) looks at and manipulating it to benefit your site. If we are going to preach that you should do only what G suggests then I think you have to be applying that principle across the board... Just my two cents even though no one asked.

Not that I preach to do as G says, but if you want to follow everything they are the ones that say "Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number (fewer than 100). ". G also says "Offer a site map to your users with links that point to the important parts of your site. If the site map is larger than 100 or so links, you may want to break the site map into separate pages.".

Out of the 9 items one the list of "Design and Content Guidelines" that G offers 2 of them make a point of saying to use 100 links on a page as limit. Do you think this means anything?

One other point do you think G can tell the difference between a link to your site and one that goes to another site? I would say yes and that would help protect your oversized site map, while still marking a link farm page for what it is.

True enough. I believe this is humble pie I am eating now? Yum... But seriously you do have a good point. I apparently skipped over the site map part in my skimming of G's material.

That is why we are all here. To learn and exchange ideas.

Kensmithkw just hit a Home Run IMHO on subject I have been pitifully trying to communicate for months.

Exactly. If Google went to the trouble of spelling something out (for once) I think its important enough to pay attention.
