will any of these create a potential of pinging the same places multiple times and result in my site being considered as spaming these services?

Sorry SD, thanks for the PM asking for a clarification.

If we have that many "pingable" sites in the WP post function, sometimes, if one or more of the "pinged" sites is off-line, then the post function waits on that service to accept / respond-to the ping.

There is a plug-in to circumvent the problem, can't remember it's name but I've tried it and didn't see the need (for me).

I haven't had the time out problem. But it's not like I post every day or durring peak internet usage time.

I guess at midnight there aren't that many other people posting.
