For seo no one ever types "REALTOR®" into google so when I do use it I leave a space "REALTOR ®" I don't know if there really is any seo difference but in my mind it makes sense.

® the correct key stroke is ctrl+alt+R= ® in word anyway... not so much on here... LOL
Using alt-0174 or whatever is the accepted way for writing in your everyday word processor, notepad, etc.
But..
As this is a 'writing for the web' category when you write HTML or XHTML or anything that will be displayed through a browser you should always use ® or ® ; (i added a space after 174 so u could see the code) to render ® signs as different people use different character sets in the world and thus using this method insures your sign will always be displayed correctly. Even when viewed on a PC where the default language is Hebrew or Japanese.
This goes for all higher ascii characters like the euro symbol, pound sign, trade mark symbol, etc.
