Default 2nd and 3rd Mailing Doubles response?

Just read an article about direct mailing:

A rule of thumb in direct mail says that if you send a letter three times it will double response.

For instance if you mail the first time and get a 2% response, you’ll get 4% out of 3 mailings. So if you don’t mail the 2nd or 3rd time you’re leaving half of your response (and profits) on the table.
    and here is the link

Has anyone seen response on the second or third mailing like it describes in this article?

Sorry I'm having trouble opening the link, but here is my $0.02:
Three-step mailing always got a much better response than a single one. The best sequence for a single property listing to the same area/list: Just listed, Just sold, New neighbor.
It was usually 1,000 - 3,000 pcs. Most of the time in a b/w letter with a picture, personalized with owner's property info, bedrooms, etc.
Postcards never did as well as the letters.
Non-owners were always included on the list.
The callback rates varied from 1% to 5%.

    Hope this helps.

I heard this from a speaker once. He said they figured it out when they accidentally sent the same post card twice two days in a row. Thought it was interesting, but like most of the stuff I learn from speakers I never tried it.

    Hey Borino,

    Whats shaking?

I have several people on a heavy rotation. They are getting something every 4 days for the last 4 weeks. I talked to one of them tonight and I can say I definatly had their attention.
