Here we go guys and gals,
The Real estate magazine publisher would like to give his two cents.
I publish three complimentary real estate magazines in South Florida. I would like to disagree, for obvious reasons, with the general statement that “print is dead”. I do think we don’t read the news paper like our parents did, but we still love those magazines. Focused print marketing is still a great option. Why?
1- It shows your sellers that you are proactive in the sale of their property.
2- Buyers are looking for these magazines when looking for a home
3- Usually you have a buyer who is higher in the buying cycle. The result quality calls.
4- Over 80% of homes are sold through a realtor. Who looks at these magazines? Realtors. You guys like to see what each other is doing…
5- As mentioned, geographical focus puts your properties in your farming area.

What I recommend is you choose a magazine that offers strong internet presence. Beware of local magazines which claim to have a great website or those who subscribe to out sources for listing exposure. You will get lost with properties from who knows where.

If anyone is ever in South Florida look us up. Mention REW and I will help you.

OK, This thread is getting kind of old, but here is my experence.

I as a REALTOR never look at these homes magazines that are given away for free. Why would I, I can look at the MLS, or go to my own site and see every last home that is listed in our MLS.

I have talked to many REALTORS who advertise in these things over the years, but never have I talked to a REALTOR who could attribute much of any success by doing so.

I look at these things and the cost of being in them and think to myself that the cost to benefit ratio is extremely out of whack and as such I would not be advertising in them anytime soon.

Now possibly the experence is different in other markets and that is just fine.

Dog - Do you mind if I use that graph for a blog post down the road? I think that would be a great way to explain the market and how buyers are finding out about property listings today.

The battle between print and the Internet will go on for years, in my opinion as print loses more users to the web. I think newspapers and magazines will be around. They'll just take a much smaller portion of the ad rev as the web gains more and more users over the years. The Internet after all is really still just like a young child. Advertisers seem to do much better these days on the web. I think it's a matter of educating clients about just how powerful the web can be to sell your real estate listings.

I think in 10 years you will see a major change with the print media. Too many people are getting cozy with the news from the internet. As technology progresses you will have more news available from your phone or other sources. I have not opened a newspaper in years, I get the news from the internet before its been printed in the paper. So anything in the paper is old news. Plus, think about how many trees we would save.
