I would recommend this as well. The most effective efforts will be ones that help match users with information that is of high interest to them. Targeting your articles to specific sites will help increase the authority of your website, both in the eyes of the search engines, and in the eyes of readers as well.I would recommend tailoring the article to the user base you are planning to have read it.
Have not had much luck getting my social bookmarks picked up in search engines

I have been having a hard time getting my articles even accepted to digg, because it is a tech site and they have reviewers that go over it before the article goes live it typically needs to be real estate tech related.
Social bookmarking sites are best used for articles and not your site, although it is okay to submit your site to them, but the articles are better to submit to the social bookmarking sites and the other good thing about them is if your content is really good, then you can use them for link baiting, but this requires very well written content and use of other applications besides SBM sites.
