    Question Website Blog SPAM

    Has anyone else noticed a HUGE increase in their website blog or WP blog?
    Mine received a hundred last night. Is there a widget or something we can do to curb this?

    Yes, 2 of my Wordpress blogs are getting hit heavily. I need to find some spam control plug-ins when I get the chance. I was hoping it was just a big spam campaign & would die down but it's been going on for a couple of days now.
    Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

    WordPress Hashcash and Did you pass math.

    These both came with my new blog. Don't know how effective they are since the blog is 3 days old.

    I have found that the askimet plugin has trapped all but one spam comment that came through. Askimet is included in the WP 2.1 upgrade.

    I just got 40 spam comments in the last hour. Askimet trapped them all. It works great for me.

    "Akismet has caught 2,368 spam for you since you installed it." on one of my blogs.

    But then, with Wordpress all comment posts are queued in an "Await Moderation" bucket.

    A weekly visit, marking most all as spam does the trick.

    My newer blogs have akismet and I'm not bothered by spam. These are my older ones that I'm afraid to upgrade because I like how they work.

    The problem with the await moderation is that I have all comments sent to my e-mail. Maybe I'll stop that and just visit the queue once in a while to clean it up. But I will look into those other plug-ins.

    I am having a problem with spam as well. Doesn't bother me except for the email notification. Does anyone know how to turn off the notification?

    With a WP blog, after log-in

    Options > Discussion

    then selectively bullet

    E-mail me whenever:

    * Anyone posts a comment
    * A comment is held for moderation
