    Default Vista - Upgrade?

    O.K., I just read the cnet review. I got a laptop for Christmas and it cam with a free upgrade to Vista - question is for anyone here - why would I upgrade? The cnet review is mediocre. Here is the link:

    Has anyone upgrades - or sidegraded as it may be since it doesn;t sound that impressive. If I upgrade it sounds like I should go with ultimate.

    why would I upgrade?

    Only if Vista offers something that XP Pro does not.

    My recommendation is to wait a year for Vista to mature, then decide.

    Funny, I can't stand Office 2007. They changed the interface entirely, got rid of the menu bar, and did all these weird control panels instead. I understand menu bars. I have been using them for about a decade. Office 2007 makes me feel like I am sitting in front of a computer for the first time, even though I have used every version of Office since 95.

    Vista is such a bloated, wasteful, spyware product, that I am seriously debating making Linux my upgrade path...

    I won't upgrade to Vista until I'm forced to *likely about the time M$ ceases to support XP*. Given M$'s track-record, that may be sooner than one thinks .....

    Weird how one person can love it and another hates it. I guess I see your point Fergus but I really do like it. Maybe its that I was raised on Macs so the new Microsoft stuff makes me feel right at home.

    I just received Vista as a gift from my brother. I really didn't plan to upgrade but now I'll give it shot. I'll let you know how it turns out.

    @Calgary Realtor

    I've heard rumblings MS will drop XP support much quicker than we might expect too. They were quite aggressive about forcing their malware IE7 on unsuspecting users.

    @CedarCityRealtor

    That could be well be. I guess I feel frustration that I am expected to learn a new interface when I had one that I understood well in the last version. I don't see how this new approach is better. I find myself searching for functionality I could have called up instantly before.

    But obviously some smart folks at Microsoft think this is better, and I'm sure you're not the only person who agrees.

    Doesn't Office '07 have a "Classic" menu view?
