I totally agree about the targeted conversion.

But there is not a need for a 50 page scenario to cover the arena.

WaterFront, Luxury, Golf Homes, Planned Communities, Downtown Homes, Custom homes ... whats left.

Going after the community names themselves is hit and miss.

    Am I missing something?

    10 cities = 10 pages
5 property types per city = 50 sub pages
10 neighborhoods per city = 100 pages sub pages
3 property types per neighborhood = 300 sub / sub pages
Total count (Without getting creative) 460 pages

Granted there is a diminished traffic return
10 cities = 10,000 unique visitors per year per page
5 property types per city = 1000 unique visitors per year per page
10 neighborhoods per city = 1000 unique visitors per year per page
3 property types per neighborhood = 100 unique visitors per year per page

Keep in mind however - with each level of depth competition becomes less (Most people are not willing to put in this kind of content effort)

Also remember - (Hit or miss aside) 1 visit = 1 deal - you might not know which visit, but that is always an undeniable truth

I think you might be missing the point (but am not sure). Writing a page on Water Front might not land you on the 1st page of the SERPS for Water Front. However, the act of writing about Water Front will a) demonstrate you are the professional on Water Front and more importantly b) field out a whole bunch of search terms your future clients might use to find Water Front.

For example, while writing on the subject, you might talk about a home that features a sheltered harbor. Even though your client might be looking for water front property, they might use "sheltered harbor" as a term to find it.

couldn't have put it better david and morgan, I get more traffic from more specific niche targeted keywords in the dallas fort worth area than I do for generic term such as dallas real estate of which I'm #1 for yahoo and 2nd page on google. last I checked there were around 1200 or so searches for main term in google and about half that for yahoo. A combination of just 10 other keywords that produce 1/4 of traffic but are more specific will bring you more traffic than just ranking for the most competitive generic keyword dallas real estate

I dont work on the long tail words, but they just seem to appear when I work on the popular words.

I stand corrected...I am now a believer of around 70%
