According to Yahoo, "Yahoo! Web Rank" is a measure of how popular a web page is based on the number of links pointing at it.

When you enable the Web Rank button on the Yahoo! Companion Toolbar, the URLs you visit will be sent to Yahoo! in order to get its Web Rank (from 1 to 10). The info sent about the URL is anonymous and DOES NOT include your Yahoo! ID or any personally identifiable information.

According to me, It is not like Google Pagerank in any way, Though Yahoo says it takes links into count I feel it is not the case, They mostly check the popularity of the site from people using their toolbar and use that data to assign a webrank to it, This is another good feature of yahoo to get into a direct competition with the Big G, Google is our words,

You can turn off Web Rank at any time from the Toolbar Settings menu (pencil icon). When disabled, URLs are no longer sent to Yahoo!.

Yeah yahoo are playing around a bit? i was listed no.1 spot for a couple of keywords for well over 6 months, then one cold october day last year - Vanished! amazing! my site was listed 30 pages back!! - weird? - concentrate on G !! that's what i'm doing.

I remember back when I joined the directory a few years ago Yahoo gave me a few #1 spots for about 2 weeks. After that my site was no where to be found. Even though now I have about 1600 yahoo links of which most are from authoritive sites.

I wouldn't write Yahoo off just yet. They are just a few steps behind google and still account for a good percentage of traffic. I've listed traffic numbers below for my site in April. I was suprised to see Yahoo almost equal to Google.

Same i msn i get over 1500 a month from them

I get twice as much traffic from Google than Yahoo, but I rank better on Yahoo for the same search phrases.

that's very interesting... I wonder what the "Other search engines" are, that's a pretty decent amount of traffic.
