    Default Yahoo Site Explorer Question

So I'm sure you fine folks here have used Yahoo's Site explorer.

I'm a little confused. Google shoes my site as having 1 link back. Yahoo Site explorer has me as having 142 inlinks, other sites linking to me.

What's the difference? The 142 inlinks are things like our other company (our finance side) or directories linking to us.

Why doesn't google see it if yahoo does? o.O

Google does see them, they just don't list them all. MSN usually shows the most.
Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

Well, I assumed they all have different numbers..

    But 1 compared to 142? o.O

As an example (& it's theoretical because I don't have the exact figures in front of me right now), MSN might show my site as having 2000+ backlinks, Yahoo shows 900+ & Google shows 50+.

Google has been known to reveal just a "snippet" or percentage of your actual backlinks. However, if you have a Webmaster Tools account, they have recently added a more accurate count of links in there. I've been using this tool a lot more lately, with Joost's GreaseMonkey script:

Yahoo's Site Explorer seems to be more accurate than Google & MSN's link commands. I used this exclusively, before Google added the feature mentioned above. I still use YSE for quick analysis.

MSN always has displayed an inflated number of backlinks. Probably because they index a lot of crap that G & Y filter out. They actually just have just turned off the link command functionality:

    Brandon;

Listen to Disco on this (grin). He is giving you SOUND tools. DO sign up for G! Webmaster tools account. IMHO, it will show you more than just Backlinks. It will also indicate other potential issues with your site.

The grease monkey script is a handy way to check links --and partners--for issues. It's a time saver for a task that most don't do because it's a pain in the rear...

Actually, since I use Top Producer, I can't truly use G Tools.

I've had G Tools for awhile, but due to Top Producer strangling the freedom out of my hands, can't verify the website Without that... don't actually have much.

I've been hounding TP though, and they other web site owners requested they fix this (imagine that!).

And I have around 10 different sites to check my links. I just never understood how google would have a few links, then yahoo would have more then five times that amount. Then I would compare the sites' (yahoo vs google) tools, and they would say the same thing. I thought maybe I did something wrong.

But the more knowledge I got on the matter, I just realized that is how the cookie crumbles =/
