    Question Google Real Estate Directory

Does anyone understand the Google Real Estate Directory? It's obviously pulling from DMOZ, which is great that they're not doing some sort of pay per listing and reaching in to our wallets in another manner.

I looked for my listing which is in DMOZ under Tennessee / Memphis but doesn't show up in the Google version. I was wondering why? Google is supposed to be ranking them according to PR, and so mine would be toward the top as the highest one in that category is a PR4, and so is mine. To be honest, I wouldn't care where it was ranked on the page, as long as it was there.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I dont think it has been updated in over 6 months. At least not my section. I have been in DMOZ for at least 6 months and I am still not showing up in the google directory. Anyways directories are irrelevant anymore so who cares.

I wouldn't think that is 100% accurate. Do you really believe all Directories have zero percent benefit from being listed? Regardless of PR of the page you would be listed on? The weight SE's give that Directory as an authority?

I guess I missed the boat when it was determined all directories were useless and have no benefit. Webmaster, does this mean you are removing REW's Directory?

Sorry, not trying to go over the top on sarcasm; I would hate for a newbie to read an opinionated statement like that and take it for cold hard fact, as-is.

Mine was instant, but I submitted before they had the big break down. It's back up (or was) for editing at least, because they finally edited my listing for me.

They've had serious issues for months up until recently. you can check their forum, there is a section on checking on the status of your link, and there may be a posting on delays.

Unless things have changed, you are only supposed to submit once a year. Multiple submissions can go against you. I give up as there doesn't seem to be an editor in my area & there haven't been any new additions in a very long time (years).
Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

Can't you volounteer and apply to be an editor for your area?

I submitted mine a few months ago and nothing has happened. I'm not sure what the deal is with that.

I would agree that directories are largely useless from a consumer standpoint. I can't remember the last time I went to one looking for a professional service.

It took 6 months for me to get in. Is it worth the trouble? Only if you get a boost in the SERPs because of it, at least in my opinion. It would be next to impossible for someone to find you (at least me) by the time you click through so many pages to find someone.

On a side note - I switched companies two weeks ago and 1 week ago I submitted to change my listing. It was changed that day. I think that is telling of their priorities.
