Default Anyone notice the RSS icon on new MSN?

There is an RSS feed icon on the bottom left of the new MSN search result page.
Click on it and there is code for RSS.

Can someone explain RSS to me, how it is being utilized on the search result page and any ideas on using to benefit our sites?

I would like to know more about this to. Maybe Morgan can start a new topic for RSS as its really popular and us Real Estate folks arent real keen on RSS.

Specifically, I would like to know how to offer Rss for my sites content, how do people offer the RSS Link at the bottom of their sites that contain the XML of their site? Is it something you add sever side or (hopefully) something easier?

How about it Morgan, can we get an RSS forum? What's everyone elses interest?

Creating an RSS feed manually is really pretty easy. Here is a link.

I'm playing with it as a rank-checking tool for MSN. In your favorite rss newsreader, add MSN SERP page URLs (where you rank for your favorite keywords) as channels. Then when there are changes in the rankings, that "channel" pops to the top as new "news".

I guess it can also be used to know when MSN updates their index, algo, etc. You can also use an rss browser like Opera (or the plugin for Firefox) to get super clean (no sponsored ads) SERPs.

As a benefit for your site, you could provide an rss feed for say the last 20 listings added to your site/database. A user could add your feed to his or her newsreader and monitor "new listings" from there, or other sites might ad your feed (free traffic). Here's a good ASP RSS tutorial: http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/031303-1.shtml
