Why don't sites like myspace, youtube or linkedin appear in google results? Is there something you can do with those types of sites to increase visibility?

I would imagine that you could use myspace to blog and generate backlinks. Linked in is also a source of links with their personal profiles. Not sure on youtube, but I'm sure if you had video tours of your properties, you could pop a link in the video description.

I sell Houston homes and write at this blog dedicated to Real Estate Technology for agents. I originally created this Houston Real Estate site and switched to REW - awesome decision.
They don't?

I think you might mean, why don't they give or show backlinks? Or ummm...

I guess a more appropriate question is: how can i maximize my social networking sites to compliment a SEO campaign? Is there a trick?
I can google some keywords that show up on the first page with some sites but the social networking sites that I've created don't even rank in the top 10 pages...
Nor should they, just because you have a contextually relevant page, does not mean the domain carries weight in that realm (In this case lets say real estate) - it comes down to choice of places to network.
Take REW Blogs and Active Rain, If you write compelling articles, and get your blog posts linked to, or highly rated, I can guarantee your blogs (Especially the REW blogs) will rank very highly, for a great many keywords - first page in fact, for many secondary or long tail terms which are very good converters. http://www.google.ca/search?q=louisv...ient=firefox-a for example

With a lot of the social media sites you can get a lot of traffic (digg, stumble upon, You Tube) but it is not targeted and the audience has little interest in what you have to offer.
Most effective for me has been technorati. Decent traffic plus visitors are more on topic.
MySpace has so much random content that it is hard for the overall domain to pick up any steam in the SERPS. Plus I think G has an algo against these domains.
So webmaster, if I write relevant and quality blog posts on my social networking sites then I increase the opportunity to have them rank higher? Is that an accurate summary?
LinkedIn does not offer blogging or anything like that. They have one public profile option and I don't know if I can link within the text of my public site. Any suggestions on how to get additional visibility on that?
Linked In is more for reuniting with college friends, at least from what I've seen.
Myspace is for people also to stay in touch, and for networking. Not really to generate leads.
You need to determine what your target audience is. If you are switching to commercial realty, you need to appeal to them, and myspace isn't the way you want to do that.
If you're not remembered, you never existed.
I don't use linkedin so I cannot provide feedback, my social networking sites are Technorati, Active Rain, REW Blogs / forums (obviously), Digg, Facebook (This one is new to me) etc You need to choose what social networking sites are right for you.

facebook is nice, but still a little kiddish (that's kid-ish, not kiddish like a Hebrew Prayer)
