From what I can tell this discussion has taken two different directions. One is that social networking sites are great for networking, building relationships and keeping in touch with potential clients AND number two, they are not necessarily the best for creating the search engine optimization most of us are looking for.

However, I think that if you plug your sites through your social networking sites then you will increase your exposure and your hits and hopefully your conversions... AND, this will be a warm lead coming from someone in your social network and more likely to be referenced or become a client.

So, I don't think I will abandon my professional links through social networking sites but I'll definitely make note that they are not helping any search engine optimization.

In my neck of the woods it has been noted that stumble upon and Digg end up helping to get links from many different blogs if the the content catches enough heat that it gets seen. I think that putting together a networking group of RE professionals could help get the intial Diggs needed for people to notice your articles or blog.

I know Realtors that have absolutely no online presence... but one hell of a network and they do quite a bit of business.

My experience.... but don't ignore networking with too much time on SEO (or only thinking about SEO for online social networking) since people like to do business with people they know.

Use Linkedin for getting and giveing referrals, Facebook to get clients, and youtube as a server to store your video tours of property...do these and blog and you will do fine

It just shows you how important social networking is and how people are finding the importance of it

I would say digg, Propeller, and stumble upon. I would not consider twitter a social bookmarking, it's more like a mini blog. My contents on the first 3 sites often times will be indexed and ranked.
