    Question Expired Domain Name

I am curious, if someone in the Real Estate industry let a domain name expire that had significant relevant links built up and domain authority, and you swooped in and purchased that domain, and put your website up on it, would it really be of that much benefit, since you have to re-register it and all that stuff, wouldn't it just be a total waist of time??

If the domain has links pointing to it from other sites... It wouldn't be a waste of time. I'm assuming those links would count for something.

It would be great if someone abandoned an old domain with lots of links, doesn't happen much, but it would REALLY help you out of the blocks.

All the domain authority on such a domain would be lost though would it not???

Well, the google authority not associated with link would be lost slowly. As they index your site, and see different files.

Those links would sitll be pointing at you though, thus still have some nice link love.
If you're not remembered, you never existed.

that was what I thought Brandon, I asked because I got a e-mail promoting purchasing expired domains, and it just seemed very unlikely.

I picked up an expiring blog web site. Before it was getting 30+ visitors a day, now that I've had it a few months with my own content I'm down to approx 10 visitors a day, but for $340 for a PR4 site with 100+ backlinks, I think it was well worth it.

Wouldn't change of content as long as it was relevant be viewed as a good thing?

Changing content (As long as the new content was just as search engine friendly) will not effect your rankings negatively whatsoever - nor will a change of ownership. What effects a domain when it transfers ownership (Expired or not) is time (If it sits, people will stop linking to it) and improper handling of the domain once it reaches you.

Such as not recreating internal pages with the same urls as those that had IBLs to the old domain, in order to preserve those links?
