I was under the impression that Google will penalize sites for duplicate content. If that is true, wouldn't posting the same article across multiple sites cause those sites to get docked in Google?

I've read that when google refers to duplicate content, they mean content on a site repeated multiple times in an attempt to fool the search engines that there is more content there than what there really is.
If your statement was true, PR companies would be out of business. They pass out press releases and these are published word for word many times on many sites; especially press releases from well known companies.

Duplicate content and syndication are different things, Google does not want a user to experience the very same content from site to site, as it makes for a bad user experience, so there actually IS a facet of what Google does that helps limit the exposure to the same content over and over - but Steve is also right, for the most part, what people are talking about is content on your own site being "cookie cutter" where you create hundreds of thousands of pages all with the same content, just different keywords as variables
Buy "x" tools for y price from abc.com we have the best x tools in the world. Replace x and y with product and price, then repeat.
Syndication SE's understand, but for a content syndication website to be taken seriously they have to earn authority, and show that their guidelines for submission are strictly enforced, and that they have standards and policies that will help prevent search engine manipulation. Of the thousands of websites that accept articles, I would say less than a hundred have this status and are worth submitting to.
Starting LEC 7 soon but it won't be called LEC 7 - LEC 2012 coming soon!

Can someone give a good example of a good article . Does anyone use a professional service to write an article? Are articles better than blogs in helping your serps or does it just matter what the pr is?
