Default dedicated server plans & host providers

I can see I have a lot to learn on the web site – page rank front! Or just turn the site over to someone that knows what they are doing! I have just found out that GoDaddy, my current web host provider has changed my 18+ domain redirects from a 301 redirect to a 302 redirect and they won’t change them back to a 301. From what I have seen a 302 is bad news for PR on G. Soooo I’m thinking the first item of business would be to do something that I have more control over the situation. Any suggestions on dedicated server plans & host providers would be greatly appreciated.

You might check into some shared hosting programs. For instance, "asmallorange.com" allows you to host unlimited domains. You contol everything from a Cpanel.

My question would be why are you 301 redirecting 18 domains in the first place?

I dont thnk dedicated is a good fit for any realtor unless you are a very large office as a good server will cost you at least $500 USD per month, and you have to be able to handle the admin yourself.

If you need to change hosts for other reasons, no problem we can certainly help you find one that suits your needs, but why not just remove the redirects altogether? I suppose I need the answer to my first question before I should ask the second

I too am experiencing the same learning curve. Sorry if this seems a double post.

I had 302’ed (forwarded & masked) from Go-Daddy a number of domains to my main site.

There, they opened what appeared to be a 3 or 4 page site unique to that domain name. With unique (if limited) content.

Each “site” offers a similar service but in a different geographic area and the domain names and content reflect that. My goal is to market these domains independent of each other, building a network of local businesses.

I’ve been told I needed to host each individually and have been investigating (stumbling) into dedicated servers or even a resellers account but using it exclusively for my stuff.

Input – direction will be greatly appreciated.

My advice would be to drop multiple domains. Have one site, and build it up. The larger the site the better. If you have a very strong large site, it will be easier to rank for smaller keywords in smaller markets than it would be to have a lot of little sites.

Having 18 domains pointing to the same site is worthless. What you can do with rest of the domains is create new area specifc sites and optimize each site for that area. You will get much better results that way.

    My 2 cents.

That's exactly the intent - the question is what is the most cost effective way to create and host / manage a number of specific sites.

There are more than a few hosts that allow unlimited domain hosting. Bandwidth of course is another story.

That's why I have them in the first place but until I have time or money to take the top domains and create the sites I just had them redirected. Several are the type people just randomly know will have info like fishing.com or yourcitymls.com etc.. Until I found this forum and educated myself (a tiny bit) about this subject I didn't realize what a negative effect redirects had. So if a 301 redirect won't give me a negative effect, that's what I had in mind to do until the time/extra money arrives. Thanks for your 2 cents.

They are redirected because of no time/extra money to get them up and going now. A few of them are domains people just type in their browser because they have a hunch they will find the info they are looking for, yourcitymls.com or yourcountyrealestate.com etc.

The dedicated server plan I was looking at ran about $89-$120 a month. So they must be lacking in something?

The other reason I was thinking about going to a dedicated server is I'm doing the research now to post virtual tours on my site instead of paying the usual monthly fee or per tour fee to someone else. (that's another post in it's self)
    Thanks for your help
