    Default User's Monitor Resolution

Does anyone know of a source of information that indicates what resolution most web surfers view at?

It seems like most sites in my market are designed to be viewed at a minimum of 800 x 600. I keep my monitor at 1280 x 1024 most of the time myself.

Those stats are national and based on the area you are in this will vary.

It is my understanding that these stats are "Global" as should be the case.

Yes, very interesting Jeff, thanks! I am surprised that the Netscape share is so low. Netscape Navigator was by far my favorite browser until I learned of GoogleBar about a year ago and found that it was unavailable for Netscape.

    Thanks again!

I wonder, would you stick to, let say, 1024x768 resolution even at expense of loosing potential buyers (who maybe still using 800x640)?

And, BTW, a lot of people used to have browser window NOT MAXIMIZED, so screen resolution stats could be a bit misleading.

Thus I advocate to target your design to 800x640 and also to use CSS based content order techniques to comply even with handheld devices.
