Thanks Calgary, this is a big interest of mine lately.

Thanks Calgary, This is something I found interesting because I was under the understanding from many posts I have read before that if you link out you lose page rank, apparantly not. I must say I am still a little green when it comes to pagerank but starting to understand it more.
Links don’t give PR away, they are votes. “When a page votes its PageRank value to other pages, its own PageRank is not reduced by the value that it is voting. The page doing the voting doesn’t give away its PageRank and end up with nothing. It isn’t a transfer of PageRank. It is simply a vote according to the page’s PageRank value.”

brandonre, that's not true. You don't need to worry about leaking PR nearly as much as most webmasters do, but you do lose some PR when you link out.
They got the formula right:
PR(A) = (1-d) + d(PR(t1)/C(t1) + … + PR(tn)/C(tn)
but, they failed to mention iteration over the formula until convergence.
I know it's a nit picky thing, but it really annoys me how many SEO's don't understand the fundamentals of the search algos and make incorrect statements like the one above. It's sad so many don't have the math background to understand what is really a very simple concept.
Here's the best way to understand PR; play with the PR calculator they featured and see for yourself how an outbound link will lower the PR of the page and your site by a little bit:

That is an awesome tool calculator. I had no idea one even existed. Thanks dude! Now I have a new SEO toy to play with.

Yeah, it's pretty fun. That said it's based on the PageRank paper published by the google boys before google existed. While the fundamentals a likely the same, we really don't know what's going on in google's algo for sure. We do know they have added hundreds of other factors to ranking in addition to PR.
True... plus G changes and updates on a weekly basis:
"Some people think that Google changes a few things every few months. At least in search quality, it’s more like a few things every week. From the article: “the search-quality team makes about a half-dozen major and minor changes a week to the vast nest of mathematical formulas that power the search engine."

Ah ha, here's an idea for a cool SEO tool I need to build:
How would you like a version of that PageRank calculator that would crawl your site and pre-populate your site's linking structure in a similar PageRank calculator. You could then refine your internal linking structure to make sure the most important pages are getting the juice. How cool would that be?
You could even import all your inbound links Google knows about from webmaster central and you'd have a pretty good picture of your link popularity and a tool to optimize it.
I'd love to have this tool and it's unlikely I'll ever get around to building it... anybody need a big SEO tool link bait project?
