    Question Open source or Commercial scripts

    What would be for and against Open Source real estate scripts, and which one do you find the most developed?

    I was testing a lot of scripts, I would like to hear other opinion of expirienced real estate web masters.

    Thank you,

    Milos

    Open-Realty is an open source CMS for real estate with a good, fairly intuitive admin section for adding listings and users. There are quite a few templates available from different designers, or documentation for building your own, and lots of plugins for additional functionality. You can test drive it on my site if you haven't looked at it already.

    Milos;

    Good questions...but it REALLY depends on the script. This is ESPECIALLY true in the PHP world, where there are a plethora of both types (open source and commercial).

    Which scripts are you referring to and I'd be happy to offer an opinion if I have used them...

    Best;

    I don't think that there's a problem here with posting links to resources, etc. It's mostly links to competitors, spam, self promotional stuff, etc. that get panned and canned from what I've seen.

    Hello,

    Let me share my experience in last few months testing all kind of Content managements and real estate scripts.

    Yes, all these scripts comes from Open Realty and have different development after, some of them just went commercial.
    I wouldn't mention commercial scripts here, as I found out that the best real estate web site can be made with the little help of open source.
    It is not easy at the beginning and needs time and coffie.
    One of the perfect content management is Joomla, and can be implemented with Various Open source and commercial real estate add ons for publishing properties. For example, EstateAgent, Mister Estate...

    One of my favorites is EAimproved of Mr. Manos from Greece, its an open source and can be found at http://www.orfanoudakis.gr/index.php

    For real estate web master, important is: publishing a property, possibility to have categories, galleries (video and photo), tracking visitors, publishing news, to have weather information, contact form with reference under each property, maps, also Google mapping is good, mortgage calculators, unit conversions etc. And multi language content. All this can be done by components, modules and bots from Joomla. And when you connect Joomla with one of the real estate components, you are ready to Rock and Roll.

    Joomla official page is http://joomla.org/

    Nice work for all the developers and their contribution.

    Hi Milos

    I'd agree with you Joomla is one of the best open source cms, I use it my self with a heavily modified version of hotproperty. The great thing is any component or module can be modified to suit your needs.

    Cheers
