My recommendation would be to do it in the form of an article and "make sense" when you do it.

Yes, if the content is all related, you should be fine.

That means the content on YOUR page relates to both the link's anchor text AND the text of the page you're linking to.

To be even more safe, try not to link to the exact page that links back to you, because that can look like a link exchange to Google.

    That would look like this:

Your page with an outbound link -> <- Their page with an outbound link.

    Instead, do:

Your page with an outbound link -> one of their other pages
Their page with an outbound link -> one of your other pages

Thanks for the help everyone - except for Jasmine - but as for OHMwebmaster's comment, I'm really trying to think of ways that the page they will be on the content will be relevant to their links but it's really hard. For example, what does "Michigan Homes" or "Florida realtor" have anything to do with a page that would be on Longmont Colorado subdivisions? And even if I can think of somehow relating to Michigan in the page I was going to have 3-4 links on that page and they'll all probably be different states. I was just going to saying at the bottom "sponsored by the following sites". Any suggestions?

If you make a "sponsored by" section, it's going to look like you're selling links. My favorite technique is to swap articles & then make the outbound links look like an author resource box. My "super-favorite" technique is to swap articles w/ one person & have legitimate author resource box @ the bottom. Even better if you're swapping unique articles (as in, the both partners agree not to distribute the articles elsewhere.)

Your articles need to be written naturally and then you will be just fine.
