Default Google Ad Words and Organic Rankings

I was wondering if anybody has ever seen a change in their rankings based on how high there PPC budget is in Ad Words. I have noticed twice when I change my daily budget to lower amount, my rankings drop. Perhaps just coincidence , perhaps a correlation? Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I've noticed the exact opposite with the big 3. My main site has had 0 placement with yahoo and msn until last week when I paused those PPC accounts. Probably just coincidence.

I've always wondered about this as well.

Anyone able to provide some insights?

I haven't done PPC in two years and I did very little then. My organic results are pretty great without it. Having a good PPC campaign doesn't say that you know anything about good SEO. I don't think PPC and organic placement are related.

I think I may have misunderstood the question. Are you asking about organic rankings or PPC rankings?

A while back I dropped to 2nd page in the organic results for one of my major keywords. I increased my adwords budget to level my traffic, and after 2 weeks the keyword came back.

Correlation?...I dunno. It is possible that G is measuring your keyword performance through adwords (for example pages per visit, CTR for a given keyword, and duration of visit) and tweaking the organic results if you perform really well for that keyword in adwords, but are not ranked well organically.

In my case, I've started to organically rank for some keywords that I did not optimize for, but get good results on adwords.

Is this proof of adwords affecting organic results? No, but...if I were 'in Google' and wanted to make sure I was getting great results with organic results, adwords would be a huge pool of data that would be worth looking into.

    Good point Lydia!

This makes more sense than anything I've heard on the subject yet.

Google keeps track of sites opened on computers with their toolbar. So, if you get a lot of paid clickthroughs it should help your ranking to some extent. Just one factor.

They also keep track of of bookmarked sites.

I think people would naturally raise their PPC budgets when organic rankings drop. If the rankings come back in a few weeks that doesn't mean it had anything to do with PPC. I don't think there is any correlation.

I doubt that there is any correlation at all. I haven't done PPC in quite awhile, and I hope that I never have to do it again.
