    Default Word Press question

I can't figure how to download word press files via ftp. Does anyone use word press on a seperate host? How do you save the actual files that you create from wordpress? I used the export feature but that just creates an xml file.

I'm still not sure I know exactly what you mean...I use Smart FTP - it's free. If you are using 1and1 you need to go to your FTP account and get your username and password. Then you'l need to set up a database. Have you done that yet?

Log in to 1and1 and click on My SQL Administration. Click "New Database" It takes about 10 minutes for the DB to get set up. It will give you data under these headings:

Database Name User Name Password Host Name Description
Go to WordPress and download the WP program. Unzip the file and place it in a new folder somewhere on your computer. Open the Wordpress folder and find the wp-config-sample file. Open this and replace the information in the file where it says something like this:

('DB_NAME', 'db209235123') with the database info given in the My SQL Administration.

Do the same thing with User Name, Password and Host Name

Close the file and then rename the file wp-config.

Now your WordPress folder will know what database information it needs to place it's information in.

Now you will need to go to Domain Overview and create a new destination for your wordpress files. Create a new destination called:

    /wordpress

See if you can get that far and we will move forward. It's only hard the first time you do it and make sure you copy the correct info from your database into your wp-config file.

It's funny, I use Cute ftp but I have no idea how I originally got it to work! I'll study things intently until I achieve the results but then I can't remember how I did it. However, this part was not difficult (as I remember).

I purposely used one of the hosts recommended by WP where it was easy to configure WP as it was supported by the host. Maybe that's why I can't remember having any problems.
Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

Perfect! The hard part is finished. Your analytics code will go into the theme that you select for your blog. Very easy from here....Google "wordpress themes" and select a theme that you like. Download it, unzip it and upload it with FTP to a folder called "themes". Go to your backend and click on presentation, click that theme and your done. Now you need to go to the theme you have saved on your computer and add the analytics code to the file called footer. View the source code from your website and copy and paste it into your footer file. Open your FTP and delete the file called "footer" and upload the new footer file that contains your analytics. If you change themes, you will need to repeat this process with your new theme...By putting it in your footer it will be on every page of your blog (as long as that page has a footer). A couple of other things to get your SEO up and running...You will need a htaccess file that corrects your url to only show up with www and will redirect the non www to www. I will post that code for you in this thread later...You need some SEO plugins as well. They are listed in another thread here somewhere. Add those plugins to your "plugin" folder and go to your backend, activate and configure them.

    More later...
