Default Question Regarding Link Directories and PR

I have a question regarding link directories. I've noticed a lot of them have high PR on their homepages but when you go deeper into their categories their PR drops. My question is it worth submitting your site to a low ranked category in terms of PR transferr?

Bzzzzt. Crackle. Static noises. The voice of authority whispers ominously, "Do not be alarmed. We have momentarily taken control of your monitor to inform you that your web site has been identified as a PageRank (word substitute) siphon. As penalty, any TrustRank you have previously earned will be zeroed, nixed, stomped on and flattened. That is all. We now return you to active control of your monitor screen." Bzzzzzt. Static. Crackle.

    Just humor. I'm an idiot.

Thanks for that HomeSurfer, it's nice to break up the day with a bit of madness! I see you created realestateabc ,so you would porbably know the answer to my question, if I submitted my url to a website directory, is it better to submit to a category with high PR or submit to the correct category which has 0 PR?

I wouldn't spend a lot of time with low PR directories. Take a looksie at seoMoz. They recently did a white board Friday on directories. Quick summary is find directories that are specific and relevant to your topic. If the directory links out to bad neighborhoods avoid it. Before spending your money or submitting think ahead- it would be easy for G to tweak the algo to devalue all links from XYZ directory.

In terms of pr transfer, i wouldn't say its worth submitting if you are shopping for PR only. But if homepage PR of that directory is high, then no matter what pr the category of your listing has, any link from that high PR domain will do good.

Thanks 36towns but I thought PR was transferred from the page the link is on and not from the overall domain. Is that wrong?

The goal is not PR. The goal is exposure. If a $20 ad/link gets me 2 people to my site then it is not a losing proposition. And while it is true that quantity is not as important as quality, quantity still counts when it come to back links.

And what are our advertising choices? A $20 ad in the newspaper for one day or a $20 ad on an internet directory for a year.

Lower PR on inner pages is an occurance on the majority of sites (whether a directory or not). What you need to remember is that the PR that you see is simply a snap shot taken once roughly every 3 months. PR is constantly changing behind the scenes; we just can't see it! So yes it is worth submitting to directories (whether they have a PR or not). Building both quality and quantity of backlinks will help your PR and your SERPs - ultimately though PR is pretty pointless on your own site unless you want to sell links; concentrating on SERPs however will bring the biggest reward to none directory site owners!

that is correct, but higher PR websites tend to be more authoritative, regardless of their inner page PR.

And, a site/page with a low PR now might have a high PR a couple of years from now and you will have an aged link on it. Sometimes a page won't get cached until someone buys that first ad. (I try to not call them links) All advertising is a gamble, some more calculated than others.
