    Question Lead Providers

Does anybody have an idea where all of the internet real estate lead providers popping up are getting their leads? They do not seem to be coming from searches as many of these lead provider sites do not rank well for important search terms (i.e. in my market, 'myrtle beach real estate'). Are they simply buying leads from a higher source/database and reselling them? If so, does anyone know the source(s)?

Thanks, if anybody can provide some assistance.

Companies like housevalues and homegain already have name recognition. I know housevalues does a lot of T.V. ads

The truth of the matter is that if you add up all these so called "leads" that are out there being offered by some of these "lead providers" it would exceed the total number of consumers shopping for real estate. Most are useless, some are made up, some come from internet fill-in-the-blank forms and very few trun into a real-live buyer/seller who actually wants to do something.

Many consumers are misled into giving their information.

With that said, if you want some information on a couple of interesting concepts at developing "real" leads.... send me an email through the message system.

I agree, the lead sellers in general are a waist of time for Realtors as far as trying to generate new business. The lead quality is very low, and the frustration levels for you and the people who are legit leads will be very high. much better to generate your own leads as at least they will be more willing to work with and trust you.

I know that I just started a new site and am getting all sorts of leads for all kinds of areas I donīt service. It happens when people find you in the search engines.

People use the craziest search terms and end up all over the place, so the long tail that these guys pay for gets them leads. 10 cent clicks = referral fee = good ROI.

I just sent a seller to an agent in Kansas and will probably have another one next month for god only knows where. I am dying to find out how these people find my site.

I have always suspected that spam campaigns are the scumbag way of getting leads. I receive a pitiful number of emails with the tag line "Thank you for your application, we are ready to provide you a mortgage." or some garbage like that. Click on the link and it registers your email. They can package it as a lead and sell it.

Just an assumption on my part...

I've tried several of these "lead" providers. None have provided a source of quality leads. I've sworn off this method of acquiring leads.

They basically get people to give them the information then they sell you the leads along with about 1000 other agents.
