The NAR would be foolish not to aggressively protect it's trademarks. They also aren't the only organization to enforce it's Trademark when it comes to domain names. MSN had a very famous case a couple of years ago (I believe they went after some teenager named Mike Rowe who had a site with the url MikeRoweSoft.com).
As far as "Realtor Marketing Results" being a very general phrase, thats what protecting a trademark is all about. It's to prevent a trademarked word or phrase from becoming generic. It's easy for a small business owner to lament that it's just a case of a big organization going after the little guy but if the roles were reversed you'd be fighting to enforce your trademark too.The phrase "Realtor Marketing Results" is very general - how can they claim domain over it? You're not claiming to use the word "realtor" as your own service mark. Don't let the big guys push you around! It seems that some of these big old "dinosaur" organizations are having a hard time adapting to the competitive nature of the internet.
in the case of mr mikerowesoft wouldnt it be that microsoft has trademarked microsoft.com? and that mikerowesoft.com it sounds simular to microsoft.com???
PS. http://www.mikerowesoft.com/ is still up and running

Everyone has their own opinion. My opinion is based on experience. I currently hold three (3) federally registered trademarks and for the past few months have been involved in a Trademark Infringement dispute involving a real estate domain name.
IMO, it doesn't make sense to base such an important decision on speculation when facts and precedents are so readily available. But hey, that's just me.![]()
