Your mileage may vary, but I found that submitting to more than 10 sites was not any more effective in terms of results.
This all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're just looking for direct traffic from your articles, then yes, submit to the highest ranking directories and wait for them to post. (Could take months for your article to show up in some cases.

But if you're looking for back link power for your main site, then you'd want to submit to as many directories as possible. Each directory's posting will count as a "yes vote" toward your site's link popularity which will boost its ranking in the search engines.

But it just has me wondering what other people who are successful at it use coz I doubt they are spending 10 mins by 250 sites everytime they want to syndicate a new article.
Article submission isn't the same as classified ad or url submission. You want to take the time to make sure you do it right.

Category choice plays a major role in getting the benefits of writing and submitting articles!

Article Submitter Pro, though it takes longer to use, will give you the opportunity to choose the best category for your article, format your article properly for the highest acceptance level, and allow you to choose which of the 1300 available directories to submit to.
