Default Question about becoming a licensed assistant

I am currently a licensed (newbie) realtor in Florida working part-time for a broker where I have a couple listings, and I also have a full-time job that I can't stand and need to leave ASAP. I'd prefer to do something in the real estate industry while I am working to improve my own client base so that I can still have an income.

How does one go about becoming either a virtual assistant for other agents, or becoming an assistant to a top producer? Do most assistants work on salary or commission if they are licensed? I'd prefer a salary with a bonus structure. And if I am an assistant, can I still have my own listings as well?

Thanks for any advice you may have.

I had a licensed full-time assistant for over 4 years.
I paid her a monthly salary, plus basic health insurance. Each month we had a set of targets (listings taken, transactions opened, transactions closed, etc.). For each target we hit she would get a nice bonus.

She did about 90% of our property showings (our and others' listings). For every transaction closed she received a bonus.

She also did some marketing - mostly open houses, some phone follow up. For each transaction closed she received a bonus.

She didn't have her own deals or listings. Everything she produced was handled by me and the rest of my team.

Being an assistant is a great way to learn the business (if you work for a productive agent). Just spread the word that you're interested, contact a few heavy hitters in your area and offer them your services.

Also, chat with productive vendors such as title reps and mortgage brokers and ask them for some contacts.

BTW, Lydia is now a very successful agent, one of the top producers in over 100-agent office.
