Hmmm that sucks - I use rackspace and every one of my boxes costs like 15 times that EACH! - Are the really part of Rackspace, or just trying to build credibility by claiming that I wonder. And 2000 gigs of bandwidth for $100? Going rate if you get a deal at RS is like $2 per gig. 2000 gigs would be like $4000.00 there is just no way.
And yes I went to the site, and yes I saw the thing at the bottom![]()

Dear Bigtoe,
What hosting are you using at the moment? Before launching another web hosting Id advice you check if till support all your site’s system requirements.
My personal advice – take care about all sites and bases backup. This is the most important problem you can face when transferring the sites. You are welcome to contact me personally, and I can provide you with some links.

I was checking out bluehost. They seem to offer a lot for a little. Made me suspicious.

I've got a few sites with them as well and haven't had any issues. I've never required any tech support so I don't know what that's like.

Yes, this is called overselling. Compare these packages:
BlueHost Professional Web Hosting:
3000 GB hosting space
3000 GB transfer
$6.95/month
Dedicated Servers at ThePlanet.com:
Intel Celeron Series (cheapest one):
80 GB hard drive
750 GB transfer
$69/month
Monster Series (2nd most expensive):
8 x 300 GB SCSI & 2 x 73 GB SCSI hard drives (equals 2546 GB total space)
3000 GB transfer
$899/month
Essentially, BlueHost and anyone selling similarly large-sounding packages is telling you they will give you the equivalent of a very large, expensive dedicated server for the price of the Hunger Buster combo at Dairy Queen every month. There are quite a few stories out there of webmasters who actually tried to make maximum use of all those wonderfully cheap resources being offered to them only to have their sites shut down because they were "hogging server resources." Gee, I wonder why?
Basically they are selling way more resources than they actually have, banking on the hope that most of their clients will never use all of that. It's true that most sites never will, but it creates a risk that one big site can cause the hundreds of others crammed onto a server with it to grind to a halt.
Most shared hosting companies are not running a bunch of Monster Series type servers, they're running servers more like the ones I have with dual Xeon processors and 2 x 80 GB hard drives. If you have lots and lots of them and good load balancing, maybe you can spread the load enough to support that, but a pretty front end hosting website can easily hide a shoddy back end setup, and you often won't know the difference until it's too late. Do some research before going with a company that offers packages like that. My own hosting packages may not look that attractive by comparison, but I won't sell what I know I can't provide at prices that would require me to crowd my servers to pay the expenses. Some big-sounding hosts out there are good and can back up their claims, but others are definitely all hat and no cattle. Caveat emptor is always good advice when you're looking for hosting.
Thus endeth my rant for the day.
