Default $300/yr Yahoo Directory listing worth it?

Seems to me $300/yr Yahoo listing makes sense- even if you get one new paying customer per year, that pays for it. Any thoughts?

I say no. The Yahoo page that my listing would be on, isn't even indexed by Google. I also don't believe in buying links.

I think it depends on the area you are in. My link sits on a PR4 page and has given me traffic. It also depends on what your budget is, I had the $300 and didn't think twice. One way links from a site like yahoo are very nice to have.

You can spend that $300 in better ways and get more then what Yahoo can give to your site..... IMHO

I heard that for search results, Yahoo used to display their Directory results first, but now they don't even do that?

    I say worth it.

    1) Yahoo Does use it's directory listings for SERP's (real estate michigan , 1st Result is a Directory Listing). However , If there is a page with more relevent content then it would be listed ahead of the directory listing.

    2) Yahoo Real Estate is BIG! On alot of State Specific real estate terms, Google has Indexed Those niche pages (States) from Yahoo Real Estate and displays them in the SERPS. That is a indirect benefit right there.

    3) Believe it or not , there are still potiental customers that ONLY surf Yahoo.

4)Indirect Benefits Include, PR & Relevent Back Linking Benefits. Depending on the page you are listed on.

I am just speaking from personal experiance with Yahoo. I have had a few sales and some refferals come from that listing. Which has made it worth it for me to pony up the 200 - 300 bucks.

in a lot of cases I have found that buying a yahoo directory listing DID benefit in the rankings (Although it doesnt guarantee #1) so yes I would do it, if you jump 10 spots and land just that one referral that turns into a sale because of it, it is worth it.

As for backlinks - You do not get backlinks from yahoo as they run the links through a redirect script which parses the URL's something like

    Code:
    http://rds.yahoo.com/S=899704:D1/CS=899704/SS=784000/SIG=10u4mjtso/*http://www.mirealtors.com/

I always sided with the don't give yahoo $300 side of this debate...but you make some really vaild points. I will have to rethink this one. Thanks for the insight

I don't think $300 a year can be justified. Maybe if it was $300 as a one off then I would definately do it.

The Yahoo UK directory was a one off fee of $380, but I think they have now changed it just recently.

I would say spend the money on ppc advertising instead.
