    Smile Building Domain Trust.

I was wondering if when setting up a Wordpress blog if I purchased a domain name and rather than having it and the blog hosted someplace, I just had the domain name redirect to the blog will that domain name build domain trust with Google and the others over time. Can you build links at the domain name which is redirecting and have them help the blog rise in the serps or in order to do all of this and get benefit do you really need to have it hosted by someone and ...

    Thanks,

    Jim

    OK, Jim...

Not sure I understand what you are driving at. Are you asking if you have a website domainA.com and you have a blog domain domainblog.com and somainblog.com is re-directed to domainA.com --will links to Domainblog.com help boost domainA.com in the SERPS?

    IF that is your question:

Without going into details, my opinion is that it is BETTER to set it up like:

    domainA.com (site)
    domainA.com/blog (blog)

Much better IMO than the other way.

Please let me know if that is what you were asking...

    Thanks

Actually I was thinking of purchasing a domain name for a community blog and was wondering if I got a wordpress blog which is hosted on the wordpress domain, but had the domain name I purchased for it redirecting to the wordpress domain for the community blog, would links to the domain name which is redirecting, help the blog?

Would the domain name that is redirecting, also be gaining domain athority over time?

Not sure how else to say that.

As long as the domain name is 301 redirected, it will help... though I would think a direct link would be worth more than a redirected link.

It's the website that gains authority, not the domain name.

I'm not sure why you would want to do what you are asking...

The value of hosting it yourself is that you can add plugins and features and can really use it to its full extent. Hosting WP on their site drastically limits this ability IMO.

Kinda defeats much of the value of it.

    I'm a huge proponent of

    domainA.com (site)
    domainA.com/blog (blog)
With (near) daily posts generating search engine pings, the spiders visit your site more frequently.

    Jim -

Host the WP blog on your main site address. It seems a little complicated, but it's VERY easy. Download WordPress, set up a Mysql database (much easier than it sounds,) and then add in this great list of plug-ins (shameless self promotion ) It's obviously more time consuming than just starting a blog hosted by WP, but the advantages are tremendous.

We're here if you have questions.

Nothing shameless about providing simple to understand information about what those plug-ins mean. Thanks!
