Content for writing about a particular city

Where is everyone getting content to write about for a particular city in their state. Is there different sources you can look at and then re word the content into your own verbage? I'm sure everyone can't be making all this stuff up, it must come from somewhere right?

Know your market!

If you were selling property in Mississippi you would know that the Mississippi River ran down the west side of the state. And that the Delta region was predominately an agricultural area producing large amounts of cotton, corn, and soybeans.

If you were North of Atlanta you would know that there was a 47,000 acre lake called Lake Lanier that was a prime recreation outlet for Atlanta's massive population as well as a source of the Metro Atlanta water supply.

If you were in Orange Beach, Alabama, you would know that it was one of the prettiest places in the world with beautiful blue green water and sugar white sands as well as numerous bays and canals that hosted all sorts of fish and wildlife from giant blue marlin and blackfin tuna off of the coast to speckled trout, tarpon, and dolphins in the bay. Whitetail Deer and Coyotes are scattered about on the mainland. A community with a small population of full time locals and a huge seasonal population of vacationers and second home owners.

You just have to start writing about what you know about your community and if you don't know anything about it, how are you going to sell it? Get out and discover the place you are selling and then write about what you discover.

A good source of information on communities is epodunk.com and wikipedia.com, but you want to describe your little part of the world in your own words not someone elses. You could hire a copywriter to write some things up for you, I think REW provides that service.

I've written articles about various cities in the state of Arizona. I usually start by refining my search to depict '.gov' websites. This way I know that the information that I'm using is from a respectable source.
