Default Does Google Penalize for too many inbound links

    Hi All,

I wanted to ask your opinions about this Googles penalty for having build too many inbound links in a short period of time

    webmasterworld.com/google/3084915.htm

I need to do link building for a client and plan to simply build 10-20 links in a span of 3-6 months. Is that okay?

I plan to get links from good sources NOT blogs or forums. My client sells specialty electronics so i will only go to electronics review sites.

At any rate, this is a small site with currently 50 inbound links. will 20 additional links from quality websites that write orginal electronics reviews be a problem you think, in a 3-6 month window?

As long as the links are legitimate (Not created to artificially inflate link popularity or pagerank) then there is really no limit to the amount of links in a specific amount of time that you can build. If you are doing something that is not above par - to many links will raise a flag and likely cause the boys at G to take a closer look.

Incidentally 10-20 links in 3-6 months is a VERY low volume, that would not raise a flag anyways.

yeah 10-20 is a very small number of links. If the site had 50 links and suddenly got 10000 from a bunch of junky directories there could be a problem. Google does a decent job of determining link quality in most cases so even a huge influx of links from quality sources should not cause problems. Think about sites that create a huge buzz and attract 1000s of links in a short period of time. They generally get a positive bump in the SERPs and not a negative move. After all linkbait would not be very popular if Google looked down on sites getting a bunch of links in a short period of time.

Actually, this is such a low volume that you may be doing your client a disservice by getting so few links, except of course, if the links were from the Pentagon, Google, Microsoft, etc.

No google wont penalize you for that, but building too many links in a short time is not a good link building strategy.

however in your case, (10-20 links in a span of 3-6 months.) that's really fine.. and i'll even recommand that you get 10-20 links per month not in about 6 month, but thats also depand on the competition and what you want to achieve, also when building links don't forget to use your targeted keywords in the search engines as titles (anchor text)

i wish you good luck, if you need more advices or specific link building tips for that website pm me your url and i'll take a look.

on this last round, I'm fairly sure I took hit from google, my links went from around 3000 to 14000 because I was advertising on nbc5i and a couple other sites. I was paying for links but thought it would help with exposure. I completely stopped paying for links after hit and loss in PR. not sure if this was entirely the reason, but didn't want to take any chances.

10-20 links a day wouldn't be a problem, so you are fine with Google. I've put sites into hundreds of directories over a period of a few weeks (takes time for people to review submissions) and those sites did great after that. Even though directory sites are considered junky links, they still provided good rankings across several industries.
