    Default Cookies

    Good morning,

Instead of requiring somebody to register with the website, how about just collect cookies? I've never wrote a cookie program, but it couldn't be to hard. Are there any rules on using cookies on a real estate site to collect information?

    Thanks,
    Angela

You would not be able to harvest things like an email address. What information do you think cookies would contain?

Some cookies will harvest your e-mail. Don't ask me how, but it is done. I also think knowing where people are to find out if marketing is working. Or something......

Like I said, I never wrote a cookie, but I know they can be a powerful way of collecting data from vistors.

There is no ability to harvest something from cookies. Cookie is piece of information which you can save to visitors computer(if user allows you), then you can read that cookie during next visit. Cookies is good for conversion tracking etc. But not for harvesting some info about user.

It is not possible. Even if it was, which it is NOT, how would you respond to SPAM emails from a site you happened to visit?

    Just use statcounter.com
Uses a javascript to give you stats on your visitors. Even will give you I.P.'s.

I don't think you really understand what a cookie is. I prefer mine with a glass of milk.

Then please explain to me, why is it when I visit some websites, they get my e-mai w/o even registoring? If it is not a cookie, then what is it?
