I haven't used it, but this sort of microblogging/twittering is still a bit of a mystery to me. It seems perfect for the text message crowd. I guess there are people who think it takes too long to write an email or make a blog post, but they can twitter or jaiku back and forth in a bit more public manner than just chat or a text message.

Twitter is the most prevalent site right now. Basically the user posts very short messages, maybe 200-250 characters. These posts can go on another blog (I have one that I haven't really used on my davishomes site) or the message can go directly to your friends (or colleagues or clients) phones.

A twitter post might be a status (Carolyn is showing property right now, or I'm at the open house at 123 Easy St). I haven't really been able to think beyond this. These applications bridge the gap between traditional web applications (viewing with a computer) to a more mobile web. You may make a twitter or jaiku post via your phone but it might post on two different web pages and be sent to 30 people's phones.

I'm not sure what the direct applications for this might be for an agent. Maybe if you had your client base set up, you could send out a quick message announcing a new listing or a price change through your phone vs. sending out an email from the road.

I think many web applications are moving to a more mobile format, not quite sure what it will mean for us in the near future or if we're going to need REW to develop mobile versions of our web pages in a few years.

Hm.. I'm intrigued but don't quite understand the hype (except that it does seem like a good service for mobile users)

I think a few months rather than a few years!
